Why Hyundai!

Hyundai Quality just keeps getting better. I have seen an amazing revolution in Hyundai product during the 20 years I have been with the company.

It has gotten to the point where for 6 years running Hyundai Group has placed as the top manufacturer in JD Power Initial Quality ratings.

I guess six years in a row means we can call this a trend. Here was last year: JD Power 2019 Initial Quality Study. In it Hyundai Group swept the top 3 spots for the second year in a row.

This year Hyundai's ranking fell a little, but still places in the top 10 of mainstream brands (#9), and still ahead of the 2 brands that people still consider safe bets in quality - Honda and Toyota. Since JD Power decided this year to focus on technology, and with Hyundai being a leader in in-car technology for a mainstream brand, it is satisfying to still finish in the top 10.

Of course after several years of scoring at the top of the JD Power Initial Quality Study, Hyundai ranks as 7th best mainstream brand in the 2020 JD Power Vehicle Dependability Study, which measures longer term reliability. This places Hyundai ahead of Honda for the third year in a row.

It is more than just JD Power taking notice. Hyundai has just been named Forbes Wheels Best Automaker for 2021.

US News Cars just named Hyundai as the best SUV brand. We have a great line-up of SUVs! See their comments here.

Hyundai corporate placed two cars and a utility in the final three (each) for consideration for 2021 North American Car and Utility of the year. That means that in the Hyundai Group placed three of the six finalists in these categories.

As of March 6th 2020, Consumer Reports released their owner satisfaction rankings by automotive brand. This year Hyundai was tied for the 3rd highest rated mainstream brand and #8 overall. (May require a subscription.)

Consumer Reports recently surveyed owners about Advanced Driver Assistance Systems like Blind Spot Detection, Automatic Emergency Braking, and the like. Surveyed owners listed Hyundai as among the top brands in 3 of the 5 categories covered, which is better than any other mass market brand. In fact, no other brand performed better, save for Genesis (Hyundai's luxury brand) and Lincoln.

Here is a report showing Brand Keys' Customer Loyalty Engagement Index winners for 2020. Note the winner in the automotive category, This index measures brand enthusiasm, or how excited (engaged) owners/users of the brand are about the brand. Hyundai has been on top for 11 years in a row! (No surprise to us that own a Hyundai and work for Hyundai.)

As technology becomes more and more important in today's cars, JD Power decided to do a study to see how satisfied owners are about whether their cars have advanced technology, and how trouble-free and easy to use that technology is. Hyundai rated as the #1 mass market brand, and Genesis finished just ahead of Hyundai as the #5 overall brand. This shows that Hyundai Group is focused on providing advanced, easy-to-use, and trouble free technology for their customers' use.

And if you prefer, you can listen to Kristin Kolodge of JD Power discuss the survey here. In the podcast, Kristin points out that Hyundai Group is a standout company as they have been delivering on reliable, easy-to-use, advanced technology for a number of years now.

Did you know that for every new Hyundai sold in the US, Hyundai and the Hyundai dealer make a donation to childhood cancer research? The program is called Hyundai Hope on Wheels and it has raised over 130 million dollars to childhood cancer research to date.

(Posted 8-6-15 - subscription required for article) Automotive news recently had an editorial explaining why Hyundai is sticking with their longer term warranty coverage when other automakers like GM and Fiat Chrysler are giving up on it. It came down to 2 things:

  1. The marketing benefit of the lengthened warranties for GM and Fiat Chrysler doesn't outweigh the cost to those manufacturers to actually cover their product against defects for an extended period of time.
  2. Hyundai's product quality continues to rise so the cost to cover their products for an extended period isn't that great. As a result, the marketing benefit outweighs the cost. Tremendous quality backed by a tremendous warranty significantly expands the number of new car shoppers considering the Hyundai brand.

Unless you follow the automotive industry, then you probably don't take notice of hirings. Hyundai just made another impressive one hiring Thomas Schemera to head Hyundai's preformance divison. Thomas had spent the previous 3 years heading BMW's M performance division after Albert Biermann left... to work for Hyundai-Genesis. They join Hyundai Group's head of design, Peter Schreyer, who was previously with Audi.

Hyundai developed a new platform from which they plan to launch a number of electric vehicles over the next few years. Car and Driver previews it here.

Yep, this site is about car ownership, focusing mainly on Hyundai and Kia, but Hyundai is about more than cars and so are we. This is an article from EnGadget that shows Hyundai is working on wearable exoskeletons to help the disabled walk again, and to help those who have to lift heavy loads lessen the burden. Cool stuff!
